Workers’ Comp Stipend
Local 550 – Correction Officers and Sergeants
The Workers Compensation stipend is specified in the 2010-2013 contract as follows:
__________________________________________________
16. Bonus Program, 3. Funding of Bonus Fund
If Workers’ Compensation costs for claims for NEPBA Local 550 bargaining unit members are less than the annualized number from the prior fiscal year… the Sheriff will transfer 50% of the amount saved to the Fund.

The expenditures by the W.C.S.O. for Workers’ Comp from July 1, 2008 to June 30 2009 were $393,644.
The expenditures by the W.C.S.O. for Workers’ Comp from July 1, 2009 to June 30 2010 were $506,812.
Due to the fact that no monies were saved from year 2009 to year 2010, NO Workers' Comp monies will be issued to 550 members this year.
To paraphrase, a Workers’ Comp bonus will only be paid if the Workers’ Comp costs from the year just passed is lower than the Workers’ Comp costs from the year previous to the year just passed.
So in order to qualify for a Workers’ Comp stipend in July 2011, Workers’ Comp expenditures will need to be lower than $506,812 for the period of July 1, 2010 through June 30, 2011.
